The bathroom door remained closed for a while.

Qiao Xi sat on a small chair, waiting for Lu Huo to come out.

Near her feet, a fluffy white ball rubbed against her leg. She reached out and picked up the little creature, meeting its bright red eyes.

“Xi Huo, have you gained weight?” she asked.

The little bunny sprawled in her palm, soft and fluffy like a ball. It seemed to have been living comfortably by Lu Huo’s side, well-fed and content.

“If you get any fatter, you’ll turn into a snowball!” Qiao Xi rubbed its head. “By then, you won’t even need to hop, you can just roll away.”

Lately, Xi Huo couldn’t stand being called fat. It turned around, presenting its round white bottom to Qiao Xi, pretending not to see or hear, happily eating and drinking, in great physical shape.

Qiao Xi laughed. “Why are you as cute as your owner?”

After playing with Xi Huo for a while, Qiao Xi noticed that the bathroom door still hadn’t opened.

She became a little worried and was about to take Xi Huo in her arms to knock on the door when it finally opened.

Lu Huo came out, his hair damp, with traces of water on his face and neck, obviously having just taken a bath.

His bangs were dishevelled, and droplets of water slowly dripped down his profile. His sharp eyebrows and eyes carried a hint of wildness, making him excessively handsome.

“Why did you suddenly take a bath?” Qiao Xi was surprised. Something crossed her mind, and with a mischievous expression, she walked over, holding Xi Huo. “You had a reaction just now, and then you took a cold shower?”

Although she hadn’t had any firsthand experience in this matter, she wasn’t completely clueless.

Lu Huo’s lips turned pale, his corners tightened, and beneath his damp short hair, his earlobes turned slightly red.

“I guessed it right?” Qiao Xi exclaimed in shock. Goodness, Lu Huo was such an innocent sweetheart! He couldn’t handle just a kiss on the face?

Meeting the teasing gaze of the girl, Lu Huo instinctively turned his head away, his deep black eyes carrying a sense of embarrassment and vulnerability. “No.”

The little bud on top of his head didn’t sprout.

Qiao Xi finally believed that he wasn’t lying. She walked over, holding Xi Huo, and sat beside him. This time, she didn’t tease him anymore, fearing that she might bully the young man too much and provoke a retaliation.

After all, even rabbits can bite when they’re angry.

Qiao Xi calmly absorbed the golden energy next to Lu Huo until late at night before leaving.

When she left, Qiao Xi also gave Wen Qing a ride home.

Because the matter at home hadn’t been completely resolved, she would take some nights off these days.

In the car, Wen Qing told Qiao Xi about everything that had happened in the past two days.

After discovering her husband Fang Zhihai’s affair that day, she was devastated. Qiao Xi then took her to the orphanage, where she had a lot of realizations and made up her mind.

When she returned home, Fang Zhihai was already waiting for her.

Wen Qing looked at her unfamiliar husband and uttered a shocking statement: divorce.

Fang Zhihai had expected that if the affair was exposed, Wen Qing would break down, erupt, make a scene, and accuse him of being unfaithful. However, he never expected her to be so calm and indifferent, calmly asking for a divorce.

“Wen Qing, don’t say impulsive things. We’ve been together for so many years. How can we possibly divorce? Even if you haven’t given birth to a child, I’ve never mistreated you. Can’t you forgive me this once?” Fang Zhihai didn’t want to get divorced.

During their four years in college, their relationship had been very good. He genuinely liked her, otherwise, he wouldn’t have put in so much effort to pursue her and make her happy.

However, life after marriage became more and more boring. Every day when Wen Qing returned home, the only thing she could talk to him about was trivial household matters, and he became impatient with listening to them.

Later, he unintentionally started walking with a female colleague from his company. She would act cute, dress up, and pamper him, bringing back the sweetness of their early dating days.

He only thought of it as a fling and never considered divorce.

So, when Wen Qing proposed a divorce, he was shocked and almost speechless.

Wen Qing was firm in her stance.

Fang Zhihai, seeing that she wouldn’t be persuaded, made a desperate move. He got down on his knees in front of her, begging for forgiveness. “This time, I made the mistake that all men are prone to make. If you forgive me, I promise there won’t be a next time. As for her, I will distance myself from her when I return to the company. Qingqing, please give me another chance.”

Wen Qing’s eyes turned red. She wasn’t heartless, after all, he was the person she had loved most when she was young, and now he was kneeling in front of her, begging for forgiveness in such a miserable state.

“You despicable person, making your husband kneel down and beg you. You’re really going too far.” Fang’s mother suddenly appeared and, seeing her son kneeling in front of Wen Qing, she started berating him directly.

She was furious and even wanted to physically harm Wen Qing.

“Mom, it’s my fault. Don’t blame Qingqing.” Fang Zhihai held onto his mother.

The berating was deafening, and any remaining hesitation in Wen Qing’s heart immediately disappeared. She was tired of being oppressed by her mother-in-law, serving her and her younger sister-in-law every day.

She was determined to get a divorce and also demanded that Fang Zhihai’s family move out since the house was left to her by her parents.

But Fang’s mother was unwilling and even believed that the house should belong to her son.

This matter had been bothering her.

Qiao Xi had understood the situation. She promised to help Wen Qing resolve this issue.

The car arrived at Wen Qing’s doorstep.

Inside the house, Fang’s mother complained to Fang Zhihai, “I never agreed to your marriage with her. If you had married the daughter of the supermarket owner, I would already have a grandchild by now.”

“Mom, what’s the point of saying all this now? Do you really want me to divorce Wen Qing?” Fang Zhihai looked exhausted these past few days. “Can’t you hope for us to reconcile?”

“Big brother, don’t argue with Mom. If you really want to reconcile with Wen Qing, then don’t look for other women,” said Fang Zhihai’s sister, Fang Xiaoyan. “My son is about to start kindergarten. If we move out of this house, how will he continue his education in City B? Mom, don’t be confused, and big brother, don’t make a mistake. If you divorce Wen Qing, you’ll have nothing.”

Fang Zhihai understood very well.

Wen Qing owned the house and had savings. When her parents passed away in an accident, she received a large compensation. The expenses of the family were all covered by Wen Qing’s income, which allowed them to live comfortably in City B.

“When Wen Qing comes back, Mom, don’t argue with her. Say a few kind words and try to reconcile her with big brother,” Fang Xiaoyan suggested.

Fang’s mother couldn’t lower her pride. “Since when do mothers-in-law have to beg their daughters-in-law?”

As soon as she finished speaking, the door was pushed open from the outside, and they knew that Wen Qing had returned.

Fang Zhihai composed himself and stood up, wanting to approach her.

Wen Qing walked in from outside, accompanied by an excessively delicate and beautiful girl.

“Wen Qing, you’re back. This is…” Fang Zhihai, being somewhat discerning, felt that the girl in front of him didn’t fit in here. Her demeanor and aura were not like those of an ordinary person.

Qiao Xi didn’t bother beating around the bush. “Wen Qing wants you to move out of here. Leave now. As for the divorce, the lawyer will contact you.”

“Who are you? Why should we leave? Little girl, go home and find your parents. Don’t meddle in the affairs of adults,” Fang’s mother angrily retorted.

Qiao Xi smirked and stepped aside. From behind her, three tall men dressed in black walked in, standing there with serious expressions.

Fang Zhihai had sharp eyes and clearly understood that this girl’s identity was extraordinary. Wen Qing had sought her help as an assistant. “Wen Qing, can we have a proper conversation?”

“We want you to move out now,” Wen Qing made her decision, determined to get a divorce.

The three bodyguards outside the door entered the room.

“Qiao Xi said, ‘If you don’t pack your things now, they will throw everything out later. Oh, and as for the divorce agreement, you better sign it quickly. Otherwise, my lawyer will help Sister Qing sue you. By then, you’ll be left with nothing, even your job. Oh, I also have evidence of your affair.’ Qiao Xi’s tone was indifferent, as if she were discussing the weather.”

“Why do you have the right to make my son lose his job?” Fang’s mother became agitated.

Qiao Xi completely ignored her and smirked. With a subtle hand gesture, the imposing bodyguards frightened Fang’s mother, causing her legs to give out. It was a classic case of bullies preying on the weak.

By the time they returned home, it was already past nine in the evening. Qiao Xi sent a video invitation to Lu Huo.

The next second, the video call was answered, and Lu Huo’s handsome face appeared on the screen.

“I just went to Sister Qing’s place and helped her resolve some issues,” Qiao Xi said, not one to do good deeds without recognition. She wanted to make sure Lu Huo knew.

“Mhm,” Lu Huo indicated that he was listening.

Qiao Xi told him, “Those people have thick skin.”

Lu Huo’s hand, flipping through the pages of a book, paused. He looked at the girl in the camera, her fair face with bright and shimmering eyes. He spoke, “Compared to you?”

“What?” Qiao Xi was momentarily stunned but quickly understood. She glared at him fiercely. “Are you saying I have thick skin?”

Lu Huo’s attractive lips curved upwards. His large hand rested on Xi Huo, allowing it to fumble around in his palm. It, like its owner Qiao Xi, was provoked and seemed to want to lash out.

Qiao Xi snorted, “If I really had thick skin, I would have hugged and kissed you directly when I was at your house today.” She knew that Lu Huo taking the initiative to be affectionate with her would allow her to quickly absorb the golden energy. Now she couldn’t help but want to tease him.

Through the screen, Lu Huo glanced at her in a subtle manner.

Qiao Xi began to boast, “I helped Sister Qing today because of you. By resolving the issues at her place, I can take care of your meals properly and help us keep watch.”

She wasn’t usually one to meddle in other people’s affairs, but when it came to Lu Huo, she would lend a hand.

The girl on the screen had a mischievous look in her eyes, as if waiting for his praise. Lu Huo felt a slight tingling in his chest, like a tiny ant biting him— not painful, but rather itchy and tingly.

“Qiao Xi, thank you,” his deep voice came through the phone, sounding especially clear in the quiet night.

“I don’t want your verbal thanks,” Qiao Xi’s eyes sparkled. She licked her lips and continued, “There’s no sincerity in that.”

Her intentions were clear, evident in her eyes and on her face. “When we meet, I want you to kiss me. That’s what I want.”

Lu Huo pretended not to hear the girl’s request and thought about what had happened today. Qiao Xi snorted in annoyance. After ending the video call, Qiao Xi called out Bao Fu, “I want to open a small treasure chest.” Even though Lu Huo was willing to let her find him and stay with him, she always felt that Lu Huo still had reservations. She also knew the reason, so she hoped to eliminate the dark energy as soon as possible.

[Master, opening a small treasure chest this time will consume 9% of your golden energy]

“Okay, I understand,” Qiao Xi replied.

Taking into account the golden energy she absorbed from being kissed by Lu Huo today and staying by his side, and subtracting the time she spent, she currently had 49% of her golden energy remaining.

[Go ahead and open it]

The next second, the large screen popped up from the small treasure chest. Qiao Xi saw that the walls of the Lu family’s mansion were decorated with festive ornaments, indicating that it was the Lunar New Year. Inside the mansion, Lu Huo’s grandfather and the younger generations were chatting. Lu Rong Yao was wearing new clothes and playing around with the other children, holding a thick stack of red envelopes in his hand.

Qiao Xi looked around but didn’t see little Lu Huo. She started searching for his figure on the large screen. Outside the mansion, snow was falling, covering the ground with a thick layer of snow, creating a vast expanse of white. She shifted the screen’s view to the small house but couldn’t find Lu Huo’s figure inside. Qiao Xi frowned and continued shifting the scenes. Finally, on the small path outside the small house, she saw Lu Huo with a servant taking care of him.

Lu Huo had grown a bit since their last meeting and had become a young boy, looking about nine or ten years old. His face was fair and tender, with big, bright eyes. Due to the cold, his lips were slightly pale. The slightly older Lu Huo had transformed into an adorable and handsome young boy. He was wearing a thick coat and black pants. Snowflakes fell on his head, and the servant had forgotten to put a hat on him.

Little Lu Huo’s hands were freezing and turning red. He struggled to propel his small wheelchair forward. The snow on the ground was thick, and the wheelchair lacked sufficient power. He didn’t have much strength left either, so the wheelchair moved slowly. However, the servant next to him had one hand in his pocket and was playing with his phone. He urged Lu Huo to move faster.

The accumulated snow on the ground was slippery, and unintentionally, Lu Huo collided with a nearby snow pile. The wheelchair lost control and tipped over, causing Lu Huo to fall to the ground.

Qiao Xi’s heart clenched in an instant.

Upon hearing the commotion, the servant finally put away his phone, sounding somewhat displeased. “Young Master, why are you so careless? We’re going to pay respects to the Patriarch later. Your clothes are now dirty. How can you go like this? You should go back and change. I’ll explain the situation to the Patriarch and the housekeeper. You had a small accident on the way, so it’s better not to go.”

She accompanied Lu Huo, taking care of him by his side. It would be easier if Lu Huo stayed in the small house and didn’t come out. Qiao Xi could then comfortably go ask the housekeeper for red envelopes and chat with her other sisters.

The snow on the ground was cold. Little Lu Huo lay on the ground, his clean and beautiful new clothes dirtied by the soil and snowmelt.

Upon hearing the servant’s words, the bright and expectant light in his eyes dimmed. His hands were freezing and bright red as he propped himself up on the snowy ground, struggling to climb back into his wheelchair.

Qiao Xi felt heartbroken. This little one cared so much about cleanliness, and now his clothes were not only dirty but also wet.

He sat back in his wheelchair, patting the dirt off his clothes. His little mouth tightly pursed. After a while, he spoke to the servant, “It doesn’t matter. I’m not hurt from the fall, and my clothes aren’t that wet. Let’s continue going to Grandfather’s.”

Lu Huo had already learned to speak in reverse because others seemed to prefer it that way. That way, they wouldn’t see him as a bother.

The servant frowned, “Your clothes are also dirty. The Patriarch will be angry when he sees it. It’s the Lunar New Year, and it might bring bad luck.”

Little Lu Huo lowered his gaze, but his little mouth still smiled. He patted the dirty spots on his clothes with determination and said carefully, “It’s not dirty anymore.”

He knew that if he went back to change clothes, he wouldn’t be able to pay respects during the New Year.

Today is New Year’s Day, and he also hopes to be able to play with firecrackers and have fun like other children. He doesn’t want to stay alone in his room.

The servant almost rolled her eyes. “Fine, just stay close to me.” After all, he was the young master, and if he started crying and causing a scene here, she would be the one to be punished.

Upon hearing that the servant didn’t stop him from going to the main house, Lu Huo smiled and nodded vigorously. “Okay.”

Qiao Xi felt a pang of sadness. She saw Lu Huo struggling even harder to push his wheelchair, afraid of being left behind by the servant.

Inside the main house, the heating was on, warm and cozy, with the fragrance of food filling the air. Laughter and conversation filled the room, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

When Lu Huo pushed his wheelchair inside, everyone seemed a little surprised. They paused and looked at him.

The servant stood behind Lu Huo, pushing him towards the Patriarch’s seat. “Sir, Young Master Huo has come to pay his respects to you.”

Lu Huo was a bit nervous. Qiao Xi noticed that when he looked at the Patriarch, there was a trace of admiration in his eyes. She suddenly realized that little Lu Huo liked the Patriarch as his grandfather. He also wanted to be close to the Patriarch and be loved by him, just like Lu Rong Yao.

The Patriarch looked at his seldom-seen grandson, and he was somewhat moved.

Next to them, a woman dressed in fancy clothes and extravagant attire spoke up, “Zhang Ma, how do you take care of and look after the child? Didn’t you see that Xiao Huo’s clothes are dirty and wet? What if he catches a cold from being cold?”

The servant quickly explained, “Young Master Huo fell on the way here, and I asked him to go back and change clothes, but he insisted on coming.”

“Children don’t know any better, and neither do you?” The woman, who was Lu Rong Yao’s mother, said, “And today is New Year’s Day. You let the child fall and come to pay respects with dirty clothes. Isn’t that deliberately inviting bad luck?”

The Patriarch handed a red envelope to little Lu Huo. “This is your red envelope, take it.”

Little Lu Huo received the red envelope with both hands, a faint smile appeared on his pale face, and his eyes brightened. “Grandfather, Happy New Year.”

The Patriarch said to the servant, “Take him back to change clothes first, and then he can come back for the meal later.”

Lu Rong Yao’s mother spoke up, “There’s so much snow on the road. Let Xiao Huo go back and change clothes before coming back. Going back and forth like this is just bothering the child.”

The Patriarch fell silent for a moment. “Take Lu Huo back. He doesn’t need to come over. Have the kitchen prepare his portion of today’s dishes and send them over.”

On the wheelchair, the light in little Lu Huo’s eyes dimmed instantly. He lowered his head and quickly patted the dirty spots on his clothes. “Grandfather, I’m not dirty anymore. I don’t need to go back and change clothes.”

“How can you fall from a wheelchair on the first day of the Lunar New Year? That’s really unlucky. Xiao Huo, listen to me. Your clothes are wet, and you might catch a cold.” The woman turned to the servant. “Why haven’t you pushed Xiao Huo back yet?”

Little Lu Huo looked at the Patriarch with his big black eyes and insisted, “Grandfather, my clothes are not dirty.”

The Patriarch averted his gaze. “Go back.”

The servant quickly pushed little Lu Huo’s wheelchair. “I’ll take Young Master Huo back right away.”

As they left the hall, the smile on the servant’s face instantly faded, and she complained to Lu Huo, “If I had known it would be like this, there would have been no need to come.”

Lu Huo didn’t respond. He lowered his head, pursing his small lips tightly.

Qiao Xi watched this, feeling a strong ache in her chest. Nobody treated him kindly by his side, so it was normal for him to become disheartened.

She didn’t want him to be a well-behaved child. What she hoped for was that he could be reckless and mischievous, doing whatever made him happy.

Back in the small house, Lu Huo’s face had turned pale from the cold and his little hands were red.

In the dimly lit small house, Lu Huo changed his clothes and sat quietly, while the servant had already left.

He kept his head down, almost curling up on the wheelchair, looking pitiful.

Qiao Xi felt so sorry for him. She said to her Virtual Assistant, “Can I use a prop now?”

[Of course, Master]

Qiao Xi felt a bit nervous. She hadn’t expected to draw such a prop.

“Let’s use it.”

In the next second, the screen with little Lu Huo and his wheelchair disappeared.

In its place, Qiao Xi found herself face to face with the little guy.
